Calavera Hills real estate
Located in the North section of Carlsbad just east of the New Carlsbad Muni Golf course is the community of Calavera Hills. Construction began in the early 1980s with the extension of Tamarack Avenue east of El Camino Real, and the development of the first four villages.

By the end of the 1980s approximately 1100 homes, the Calavera Hills Community Park, and Hope Elementary School had also been completed. The theme of the development had also been established... Urban villages set among large areas of open space which preserves the natural topography and habitat. Currently there are approximately 470 acres (46% of the 1019 acres in the Calavera Hills Master Plan) which has been set aside for open space. This includes habitat preserves, environmental mitigation areas, recreation areas, riparian habitats, natural slopes, trails, and landscaped parkways. The open space on the northwest corner of Carlsbad Village Drive and College will also remain in permanent biological open space. In addition, there is the Lake Calavera area and Mount Calavera in the Northeast.
Calavera Hills community parks
The southeast corner of Carlsbad Village Drive and Tamarack Avenue comprise the 18 acre the Calavera Hills Community Park. A community center, a gymnasium, several softball fields, basketball courts, children's play areas, picnic areas and a flat turfed play areas currently exist in this space. The current plans call for 6.1 acres of this site can still be developed into residential housing.
