Although Oceanside was formed fifty years earlier, it is widely thought of as developing after the San Luis Rey Mission was formed in 1884. Three years earlier Andrew Jackson Meyers purchased 160 acres from the government that he would later parcel off as Oceanside home sites, and thus be thought of as the founder of Oceanside. Forming the railroads about this time helped the area get noticed too, but it wasn’t until 1920 that Interstate 5 ran through Oceanside between Los Angeles and San Diego.
Camp Pendleton was formed about the middle of the twentieth century and Oceanside has grown pretty steadily since. Although the military base has grown, the city’s growth rate has been faster and offers a wide variety of homes throughout Oceanside.
Oceanside is still insulated to the North by the rural area of Camp Pendleton, to the East by rural Vista, the South by Carlsbad and the West by the Pacific Ocean. So, this only allows Oceanside to grow eastward. It is has been doing this for years and because of the growth the city have really developed into a wonderful place to live and vacation.
